Sophie::: Teenage mother's fight against the CAS to be with her son

[Photo: Sophie at her weekly protest with Foster Care Council of Canada chair John Dunn.]

On March 10, 2011, The Train's Denis Rancourt interviewed social activist Jane Scharf and teenage mother Sophie live in studio about their fight against the Children's Aid Society (CAS) after it took possession of the baby in hospital.

Sophie is a teenage mother (runaway survivor of the CAS) who unjustly had her baby boy taken from her in hospital after birth by the Children's Aid Society (CAS) of Ontario - the vicious corporation that has effectively replaced residential schools in Ontario.

Sophie has help from her school-day friends and from her "team" of activist supporters. She now pickets the courthouse and the CAS building every week and is starting a "parent's fight back" support group.

  1. It's sad how C.A.S targets those who can't defend themselves. It's not surprising they have to get children to sell in order to not end up in the unemployment line themselves during these tuff times when the economy is at it's lowest.

I wonder what it must be like to be so dumb you can't get a real job that your only alternative is baby snatching and child trafficking.

I mean I run a computer shop/cyber cafe... I went to college and now work pretty hard for a living.... I suppose when you are a C.A.S worker it beats being on welfare.

The sad reality is... they should go back to school.... and get real jobs instead of making money off the backs of exploited children.

  2. Thank you so much for this informative interview about Sophie. We are also developing our "Family Voices Project," to offer audio and video stories of family experiences with the child protection system.

As a reform activist and family advocate in the United States, it's stunning to note that the same corrupt tactics used by child protection officials occur across country borders. That means these agencies study each other's legal and societal tests - watching for new tactics and more potential ways to abduct and keep our children from their families.

CPS officials communicate and coordinate together about how to succeed in plowing over human and civil rights in order to increase their control over the lives of families and their children - propping up their own industries in the name of "child protection." The proper term for what happens in real life is "child destruction." And CPS really stands for "Child Poaching Services."

Clearly such government tyranny is not dependent on national origin.

It's time we join together as the World's People and call for independent oversight and accountability against the most horrific forms of oppression, regardless of which country we live in. We must unite to push back this abusive international system that steals children for profit and to justify the existence of a primarily fabricated industry.

"The tragic dysfunction we see in child welfare is absolutely due to an out-of-control system that cuts corners and uses public money to operate in its own best interest, at the expense of children, families, and communities."

"An alarming number of innocent children and parents are thrust into what has become a nightmarish and devastatingly unjust system. How can this happen? Because states allow the use of unchecked power and unconstitutional practices to justify bloated foster-care budgets while vying for millions more in federal incentives for taking children from their families in the name of 'child protection.' What's worse, unqualified people are put into positions of authority - making traumatic life-altering decisions for children, parents, grandparents, and others, without proper education, oversight, or accountability to the public."
